History

Established in 2010 by the Digital Art and Animation area of the West Virginia University School of Art and Design, the West Virginia Mountaineer Short Film Festival celebrates exceptional, compelling, and innovative works in film, experimental video and animation. Its primary mission is to help foster creative approaches to these genres and to expose West Virginia University students and the surrounding Morgantown community to the world of independent filmmaking and video art. The festival also strives to focus attention on topical issues in contemporary culture and to draw attention to the rich and unique heritage of West Virginia and the surrounding Appalachian region. All festival screenings and events are free and open to the public.

The West Virginia Mountaineer Short Film Festival values freedom of artistic expression. high quality in craft, and boundary pushing ideas about art and culture. Works included in this festival may awe and illuminate, challenge, and, at times, even provoke. Some may engage difficult subject matter.
Children should always be accompanied by an adult.
